Good planning and proper packing is the key to helping you through the experience of moving. Being organized and paying careful attention to your belongings now will help you move and store them safely, economically and efficiently. Below are some tips that we hope will help reduce the stress of moving and being separated from your personal belongings.

Packing Tips
- Make an inventory of what you are moving and a list of the supplies you will need for packing.
- Use boxes of similar size for efficient stacking.
- Keep a separate inventory of all things packed and label clearly, taking photos when possible for your insurance company.
- Consider our special purpose boxes like the wardrobe, great for hanging cleaned draperies as well as clothes; glass and dish packs that will enable you to wrap fragile items individually.
- Be sure to fill each box fully to prevent areas of collapse.
- Clean and dry things completely before packing.
- Utilize items such as washer, refrigerator or empty drawers to store clothes and linens being sure to leave doors open for air circulation.
- Do not store anything which will create unpleasant odors or is combustible like paint or chemicals.
- Beware of breakables and pack everything individually, utilizing specialty boxes when possible and remember it is a great way to recycle old newspapers.
- Place clean bags in vacuum cleaner and empty all liquids out of machinery such as lawn mowers.
- Do not pack boxes too heavy and keep more fragile items in boxes under thirty pounds.

Storage Tips
- Make a drawing and inventory of your unit and note where specific items are placed. You will also need this for your insurance company.
- In larger units leave an isle space down the middle so you can see content labels easily.
- Leave small spaces around boxes and side walls for air ventilation and consider the use of wooden pallets in some cases.
- Stack lighter boxes on top of heavier ones and make sure you can see the labels easily.
- Never store items that are considered flammable, corrosive or combustible.
- Utilize all the space by storing vertically when possible and stacking chairs.
- Drain all fluids from any tools, appliances and machinery.
- Use mattress and furniture covers .
- Store only items that are clean and dry.
- Use damp rid or similar non odor producing mildew and mold preventives.
- Do not use mothballs or any other odor emitting substances in storage units, most especially control climate.
- Consider placing a large piece of plastic loosely over the top of items.
- Check your unit often and remember the insurance is your responsibility.
